Garages were identified as a distinct type of outbuilding as early as 1911. Based on earlier carriage house designs, garages were originally detached structures, typically set to the rear of the house. Later, as cars became a standard household item, garages became part of the integral house design, often becoming the most prominant feature on the main elevation on modern homes.
Historic Shed offers custom designed traditional detached garages, built in panelized sections in our manufacturing facility that we assemble on site on a concrete slab foundation. Both one and two-car designs are available.

Existing Garages
We get a lot of calls asking if we can work with existing garages, and the answer is yes, we can repair and remodel an existing garage. However, we generally limit this type of work to within a 75 mile radius of our Brooksville facility. For projects outside of this limit, we can provide remodeling plans and design help.
After jacking back into alignment, structural repairs were made and architectural details that had been removed were rebuilt. The side windows were reopened and the siding was replaced to match the original where needed. The existing garage door was left in place, with the intent to replace with a period-styled carriage door at a later date.
This existing garage had been enlarged in a manner that compromised its structural integrity, which was further compounded by termites. As a result, it leaned noticeably to the right. The building had two types of siding and windows on the side had been removed and boarded. The homeowners originally planned to demolish the building.
